Emergency Medicine Point-of-Care Ultrasound ( EM POCUS )

EM POCUS is specially designed for medical professionals at all levels who are not specialists in imaging but who may use ultrasound as a diagnostic tool at bedside for life saving clinical decision making in unstable patients. EM POCUS Pathway consists of EM POCUS course and POCUS Accreditation program conducted by Sri Lanka College of Emergency Physicians in collaboration with POCUS-ARDMS (USA) accredited Sri Lankan Emergency Physicians and overseas Emergency sonography accredited Emergency specialists.
This is the first ever Emergency sonography program in Sri Lanka in collaboration with POCUS Academy in USA with the intention to develop clinician performed ultrasound in Emergency care settings and to establish an accreditation pathway for Emergency Sonography.

EM POCUS COURSE
This is a 3-day course which is implemented in digital platform with online physics module, pre-course reading materials in video presentation, pre and post course assessments and discussion forum. During the course there will be strong hands-on training with more than 4.5 hours of individual scan time under direct supervision, covering 10 modules and supporting mini lectures.
At skills course we help clinicians to meet the growing demand for focussed point of care ultrasonography in Emergency care setting.
Trauma-EFAST.

Gynaecology and early pregnancy/ basic monitoring of fetus.
AAA.
DVT /Lower Extremity venous ultrasound.
Fluid management and Resuscitation.
Sonography in Emergency procedures.
POCUS ACCREDITATION PROGRAM
This pathway needs completion of a 6-month portfolio of clinical case based ultrasound with at least 40% of direct supervision by POCUS-ARDMS Accredited local trainers and final assessment by both local and international examiners.
Candidates will be guided to complete the POCUS Fundamental certification and POCUS Emergency Medicine Certification by POCUS Academy-USA and at the end, candidates will get internationally recognised accreditation for Emergency Sonography.

EM POCUS course
All medical officers/Post Graduate Trainees/ Consultants who involve in Point-of-Care Ultrasound in Emergency settings are eligible for the EM POCUS course.
POCUS Accreditation program
Successful completion of EM POCUS workshop is a pre-requisite for enrolment to the
POCUS Accreditation program.
EM POCUS introductory course was conducted in Colombo from 10th to 12th June 2022 with Consultant Emergency Physicians accredited with Emergency sonography.
Dr. Kylie Baker, Specialist Emergency Physician/Faculty member of Australian Institute of Ultrasound, who played a key role in establishing Emergency ultrasonography in Australia, was the guest speaker for the introductory course.
